What Is MECS and When Should You Use It?

MECS (Minor Eye Conditions Service) is an NHS service designed for patients experiencing sudden or uncomfortable eye problems that are not emergencies.

Instead of visiting your GP or A&E, MECS allows you to be seen by a specially trained optometrist who can assess, diagnose, and treat many common eye conditions.

If you’re experiencing eye pain, redness, flashes, floaters, or sudden vision changes, contacting your local opticians for advice is often the best first step.
